The Diversify Your Local Website: https://ml18taw.leedsnewmedia.net/diversifyyourlocal/
For my final year Digital Media Project I created "Diversify Your Local".
Diversify Your Local is a local-driven project which aims to enlighten the community of Leeds to the diverse selection of international and ethnic grocers on our doorstep. This enlightenment will come in the form of an digital map, enabling users to view all ethnic and oriental markets through an interactive drop down function to refine search by continent, country and culture. Aside from this mapping feature, Diversify Your Local will also be a physical and digital zine which will provide the community insight to these locations and what they have to offer.
Shopping independently is an investment for the community, keeping money in the area whilst helping to sustain local producers and create local jobs. On top of a global pandemic, local stores are increasingly feeling the strain from the growth of online grocery shopping and racially prejudice algorithms. This project responds to a realisation I had last year that a google search of “local supermarkets” largely prioritised British companies, surprisingly disregarding factors of distance and rating. Diversify your local is an attempt to resist this future of “data colonisation”, reorientating how we view the domination of British corporations all the whilst encouraging a “shop local” society.
Therefore for my Digital Media final year project I wanted to address this issue and produce a digital and physical zine, alongside an interactive website showing a dynamic mapping facility, community news and linked social media. There is also a campaign to encourage shoppers and incorporate a gamification for shopping more diversely.
Programming

The above link is my developed websites exploring Dark Tourism; in particular the unethical practises of tourism packages in North Korea. I knew that not only did I want to choose a subject which interested me, but something that I could use as a form of activism. I noticed the online information (blogs, Youtube vlogs etc.) regarding the ‘alien’ experiences of North Korea as a destination painted it in a positive, enthralling and exotic experience. 10,000 tourists fuel £30 million annually to this totalitarian regime; funding unhumanitarian practises such as labour camps, propaganda and nuclear arsenal. Therefore through the blogs I wanted to re-establish that the Kim family regime manipulates tourism to solely achieve political purposes.

Motion Graphics
My motion graphics final project. The brief was only to produce a 3 minute piece. I decided to create a wholesome 3 minute hommage to the first lockdown, displaying my experience alongside many other students. This is my first experience utilizing the software, and I look forward to developing these skills further.
Animation
I thoroughly enjoyed my Animation module, although cut short by Corona Virus, I learned an abundance of essential skills necessary for advanced animation. Some of these included the fundamental cartoon principles, storyboarding, keyframes and tweens, loops and walking cycles, character design and rotoscoping. The above example was a task to design, storyboard and produce a 15 second on-line banner for a chosen company; STA Travel within Adobe Animate.
Design For Digital Media
Above are examples of my portfolio for Design for Digital media. These include a marketing product reinvention for Absolut Vodka, a logo recreation for Las iguanas and TV idents for a new series.
